Corona in India

Thursday, 19th March – Delhi, India

Corona Days – An eerie & unpredictable time.  The Corona scare has taken some time to reach India. So far about 175 cases.  That is relatively small for a country of 1.2 billion and where personal space is non-existent, air pollution is highest in the world  andpublic hygiene is not at its best.

Here is a pic of me in Hyderabad 3 weeks ago about to get on a plane.  No personal space.  Especially airports.  Six feet apart?

Here is a video at a small Mumbai seafood festival.  If you are out in public you will be touching many many people.

Ripe conditions for the spread.  So why are the numbers so low?

Not enough testing?  Bad surveillance/good surveillance?  Government taken early action? Many corona cases lurking in the shadows?  No one knows. Here is a short blurb from NY Times thinking about the same thing:

Shutdown!

With the exception of Bangalore who closed things down about 10 days ago.  It wasn’t until the 13th of March that all schools and other public places started to shut down.  Now things are in full force.  Today was the first day I saw people in hoarding mode.

Air Quality

It has gotten dramatically better.  Early morning the other day the air felt crisp and NON-smoky.  You could see the scattered clouds in the clear blue sky.  We looked it up and the Air quality was at 50.  Unheard of for Mumbai which is usually 100+ at this time.  Delhi was at 100 yesterday.  During the wedding it was 200+.  This might be only perception but it does tell us something about how humans are infecting our planet.

A while back I wrote a bog about a Mumbai beach (Juhu beach) that was filled with garbage and pollution.  After being shut down, 3 days of no humans this is what it looks like.

  1. It is so good to see you are taking care of yourself. The virus may not be able to survive outside the body for very long in India. Too hot or something.

Thank you for the tips. What is the name of the blood cleaner?
Hope to see you and Smritika soon.
